Thank you for the feedback! We are not planning on adding support recurring events at this time but we will keep it in mind in the future when we look at improving the overall event story on SharePoint.

Thanks for asking for this capability. This isn’t in our current plans. We suggest using the Group Calendar functionality for great Microsoft Exchange backed features like recurring events.

This is really frustrating. I have people create recurring events and then the events are not in the web part. How can this be "not in our plans right now" STILL at this late date?

We aren’t currently working on adding recurring events support to the Events web part. As a number of commentors have suggested, Group calendars do a great job with recurring events and are a great way to show them on your modern pages.

Please merge the multiple requests for recurring events to this request?

I don't work for MS, sometimes they will drop by and post with "try this instead" with suggestions.
You could easily spin up a small site, grant permissions on it to the small group of people and roll that site into your existing news web parts. Set the web part to "select sites" instead of this site, add {this site} and your new small site to the list. Done!

I found this article which explains how to make a web part available in the full width section of a modern page,
Is there some way to get the News Web Part to support this?

This has been partially implemented, perhaps MS could flag this as "Working on it" ?
The news web part currently has a layout called Tiles that looks just like the Hero.
I think News does still need to be permitted in the full width section, that would fix a lot of requests we see and now that it has the Tiles, that would be a perfect location on a landing page.

It would also be helpful if the Highlighted Content could use the built in Categories column. At present and for years, all we have is filter by title.

The result set returned by this feature (event content type in Highlighted Content) is so unhelpful that I find it hard to believe anyone anywhere is using Highlighted Content on Event content on a production page. There are suggestions going back years on this.

We had this in SP2010 and it was very helpful. It exported a little XML file that you could then import to another page or the same page.
I know you can 'copy' a web part but that only works on the same page - I need to copy it to a different page that I have already constructed, so copying the current page is not a solution either.

We shifted our resources to delivering other great areas in the SharePoint product, and are no longer planning to bring customizability (in the near term) to the SharePoint start page.

The original post is linking to a blog from 4 years ago, do you think you have enough information yet on what users and admins want?
Admins need to be able to control the landing page and web site experience. Please move this to "working on it" soon.

We already support scoping hub sites through the use of mail enabled security groups. Instructions on how to set it up: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/create-hub-site?redirectSourcePath=%252farticle%252fcreates-a-hub-site-92bea781-15d8-4bda-805c-e441e2191ff3
Can you provide more details on what’s missing?

We’ve rolled out Audience targeting in navigation to 100% WW at this time, you can read more about how to configure that here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/target-navigation-news-and-files-to-specific-audiences-33d84cb6-14ed-4e53-a426-74c38ea32293
