There is another reason Yammer is not a good fit. Yammer channel is accessible via Yammer. Embedding an Yammer channel to sharepoint site page has lots of limitations....like we can have an yammer channel for each page because it will be too many Yammer channels. Discussion boards can be unique to each wiki page so the discussion can be in the context of that wiki page.

I absolute second this. How can a search engine ignore stemming of verbs? This is a major deficiency. This needs to be fixed!

I completely second that! Organizations had developed a lot of content and spent a lot of effort in the Classic site with the existing functionalities. Dropping those functionalities from the modern site without seeking proper feedback on how they will impact those customers is totally unfair. There should be a way to acknolwedge them and provide ways to mitigate those loss of functionalities in the short term, at the minimum

We know wikis are critical to sharing knowledge within your organization! We’ve been slowly building capabilities to share information more easily with our focus on modern pages and web parts. And with that work, we’ve been adding some of the capabilities we hear you want when people refer to wikis (easily add links to other pages or content, add metadata to each page to help people find and categorize it, roll-up content based on that metadata to show groupings of like content, etc.) But we know this isn’t all that’s required to have a great wiki. Many people also want wiki linking syntax e.g. [[]], we don’t yet support that, but we do support ctrl/command + K from the text web part to search and find pages on your site. We’ll be working on adding wiki syntax shortly. We know you also need easy roll-up pages, maybe an index page,…

Sharepoint needs to think about how its customers can migrate what they built on classic site to modern site. Organizations spent lot of effort to build wiki sites in classic site. We can't expect them to redo the whole effort to migrate to Modern site.

Completely support this. Do not understand the rationale of allowing custom page layouts and then don't allow them not to get indexed. Adding standalone functionalities without assessing how they impact the overall end user experience really makes such functionalities a mere technical exercise. I really think the developers of modern site platform missed out most powerful aspect of this platform which is the search capability. Sharepoint has so much potential only if they can focus on making the search engine better.

This is a very critical feature and can be useful for any corporation. We all know corporations have a whole bunch of internal Acronyms. Actually, it would be even more powerful to define them at a site collection or subsite level.

We have started modernizing the search results page a few years ago. It is available on every site under this URL: /_layouts/15/search.aspx/siteall?q=myquery. Also the new search box placed in the suite header has started rolling out to modern experiences, and will be available broadly by end of June. We will be making it available to classic sites later this year as well. Some customers redirect their classic search boxes to the modern results page already.

The modern search experience is a part of the overall Microsoft Search experiences. See more details in this post: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Microsoft-Search-Blog/Welcome-to-Microsoft-Search-intelligent-search-for-the-modern/ba-p/531156. We will be bringing additional improvements to it later in 2019, and early 2020 as well including custom refiners, verticals, result types with modern display templates, as well as custom pages that can use modern web parts.

I am not sure why would Microsoft drop some of the good functionalities from the Classic site. Without Search refiners (filters), the platform is barely effective. Users are used to Amazon like search experience. Please add this feature to the modern site as soon as possible or at least provide an ETA so we can plan for it. Otherwise, we are stuck with Classic site.
