Metadata considerations need to be paramount to the entire SharePoint experience - How can you tell people not to use folders when metadata options are limited and not forced? How can we convince our users SharePoint is a viable DMS solution if we have all these metadata entry issues?

Thanks for the feedback. We don’t have any plans for column-level permissions at this time, but I’ll leave the UV item active here in case folks want to add further comments.

This is really a huge issue. Without the ability to force metadata prior to save it takes away all governance capability in terms of file management.

Also important to note that the import Excel Spreadsheet option very often does not work. The Active X requirement is a real problem and there are regularly errors in IE as well that just seem to be 'unknown' errors - the whole excel spreadsheet connection in sharepoint lists scenario should be looked at very closely and improved upon please.

Today you can add metadata to modern pages and news. Also the news web part currently supports filtering news by metadata, as long as the source of the content is the current site.
We’re working to enable this same filtering across sites right now.

We’re currently working on this feature now. You’ll be able to specify when your modern page actually gets published (date/time).

It would be so much better not to have folders at all. If we had the ability to change permissions for specific views that would solve a lot of problems. We need to be able to have view specific permissions and metadata specific permissions. Not having this makes SharePoint less competitive than other DMS solutions.
